On the nose there are aromas of citrus, as well as honeydew melon and some stone fruit (peach and nectarine). In addition there is a hint of struck match which adds complexity and a flinty minerality. The palate is concentrated with refreshing acidity and a lingering finish.

It has aromas and flavours suggestive of blackberries, raspberries, purple plums, vanilla pod, cigar-box and liquorice. On the palate there is a dense core of bright, ripe, mouth-filling fruit which is supported by an ample tannins.

The palate is generously full and fruity with plush velvety tannins that lead on to a lingering tangy aftertaste. While ready to drink on release we expect this wine to improve for several years and live for well over a decade with careful cellaring.

Lavish yet complex, the richly textured mouthfeel soon gives way to ripe phenolics and a rousing lash of acidity that canters across the palate, saddling up for a persistent and lasting finish, beckoning you back for more.

Upon release the wine is bright ruby in colour. There is a teasing array of vibrant red fruit on the nose including raspberry, pomegranate, cherry and plum. Spice and herbal notes, as well as a savoury underlay, add to the wine's complexity. While the palate has generous fruit weight and velvety tannins, it is balanced with refreshing acidity and a structure that gives the wine classic North Canterbury tension and pinosity.

This wine has a star bright lemon hue and while lemons, limes and mandarins come to the fore, there is a background of ripe stonefruit such as peaches and apricots. Honeysuckle and honeycomb influences come from botrytis, which has also made the wine more full bodied and concentrated. It has a spine of natural acidity and tingling minerality that helps draw out the palate structure to a citrus zest finish

Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm climate Australian Shiraz - ripe, robust, and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. The 2023 vintage eloquently expresses Penfolds House Style, balancing fruit intensity with a structure poised for ageing. Blue fruits instantly emerge, specifically elderberries, blueberries, and bilberries. Poached plums merge with the exotic spiciness of cassia bark, imparting rich flavours. A hint of meat adds depth and character to the profile. The mouthfeel is sculpted by chocolate powder tannins, which are luxurious and precise, lending a structure that is both assertive and velvety. Also present is the umami complexity of tomato consommé, enriched with piquant olive tapenade. The palate is further textured by a ferrous minerality.

Bin 389 is often referred to as 'Baby Grange', in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. Exemplifying the judicious balance of fruit and oak, Bin 389 highlights the generous mid-palate Penfolds is known for. The 2023 release leaves a lasting impression of power and elegance - layered and balanced, with rich dark fruits, supple tannins, and a long, savoury finish. A thoughtful blend of varietals. Inspired by Bin 707, Bin 407 offers varietal definition and approachability, yet still possesses structure and rich depth of flavour.
