This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant - a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

A cabernet sauvignon with a soul of black cherries, blackberries, cedar and spices. Full and round with elegant, velvety tannins and a long aftertaste with notes of tobacco and smoke.

The wine has a dense purple colour. It has aromas of sweet berry fruits that are entwined with dark chocolate. On the palate it has intense flavours of blackcurrant and plum with soft, smooth tannins with subtle oak characteristics.

Ever since the first release from the 1972 vintage, Church Block blends have been synonymous with great McLaren Vale red wine. Early wines were sourced from a neighbouring vineyard which ran adjacent to a small Bethany Church. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot grown in McLaren Vale; Church Block has a succulent core of ripe cassis and black fruits which fills the mouth and are balanced with subtle spicy oak characters and velvety tannins. This wine has a wonderful balance of intense rich fruit, fine tannins and refreshing acid structure.

The ¾ tonne Wirra Wirra bell that sits proudly atop their cellars is rung to announce the start and finish of each vintage in McLaren Vale and for other suitable celebrations. For generations it rung out thrice daily from the Jesuit Church at Norwood, South Australia at 6am, midday and 6pm, calling the faithful to joyful prayer. In honour of that tradition, the name 'The Vintage Bell' is reserved for only exceptional parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon which are selected and vinified at Wirra Wirra.
